Introduction

I decided to upgrade William's PC from the D201GLY2 to the D945GCLF2. It's only been one year since the system was first built, but I wanted to run the actual Lego Star Wars PC Game on his computer but the D201GLY2's chipset only has a DirectX 7 capable GPU and the game requires DirectX 9. The new D945GCLF2 supports DirectX 9, but other than that how much better is it really? I had seen a benchmark of the original D201GLY against the D945GCLF2 and the numbers were pretty close -- but not the D201GLY2 which has a *completely* different processor (64 bit Conroe-L) than the original (32 bit Yonah). Since I was determined to upgrade anyway, and I was going to use the exact same RAM, hard drive, and power supply, I figured it was the perfect opportunity to run some tests to see how much better it was going to be, if any, for pure CPU performance. This would be important to anyone who was going to use these boards in applications where GPU performace doesn't matter at all.
